No. We offer a variety of pain-free tests to check for any retinal changes in your eyes. Should Dr. Orenberg recommend it, we can administer a topical anesthetic before the intraocular pressure test, which is the only potentially uncomfortable one.

Both forms of macular degeneration involve worsened central vision, but there is a stark difference between the two ways each can manifest. Dry macular degeneration is the much more common form, resulting most commonly from age. As we get older, our macula tend to get thinner with age, allowing for protein to build up that can cause retinal cell loss. This form is mild enough that we can delay vision loss with medication.
On the other hand, wet macular degeneration is rarer, more severe, and caused by blood vessels growing under the retina. When these vessels leak, they can damage the macular structure, causing a more sudden impairment of vision. This form will lead to permanent vision loss much faster than the dry form. Therefore, it is crucial to catch it before it advances too far.
