What do eye exams screen for?
Regular eye exams are important for spotting common issues such as nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism. We also screen for conditions like glaucoma, cataracts, diabetic retinopathy, and age-related macular degeneration.
The earlier we catch these problems, the easier they are to treat and the easier it is to protect your vision.
How often do I need an eye exam?
If your eyes are healthy and only require a prescription for glasses or contact lenses, then you’re okay to schedule a full eye exam every 2 years. However, if you have a history of eye conditions such as glaucoma, cataracts, or diabetic retinopathy, you’ll want to schedule an exam at least once a year.
What is ophthalmic surgery?
Ophthalmic surgery refers to surgical procedures performed on the eyes and surrounding orbital structures to treat various eye diseases and injuries, and to facilitate vision correction.
Dr. Orenberg is a leading ophthalmic surgeon near Salem specializing in cataract surgery, glaucoma treatments, and dry eye disease.
How do I know if I need eye surgery?
The most common surgeries we provide at Marblehead Ophthalmology are for cataracts and glaucoma.
Dr. Orenberg will discuss when surgery is recommended for either of these conditions. This will depend on disease severity and visual significance.
Treating cataracts involves the removal of the cloudy lens and replacing it with a clear intraocular lens by your ophthalmic surgeon.
This outpatient procedure, known as cataract surgery, is safe and effective. You’ll experience improved visual accuracy and reduced dependence on your glasses or contacts.
While surgery is the only way to remove cataracts, we rarely resort to surgery right away. In early stages, you can maintain your vision with prescription glasses or lifestyle changes. With further deterioration, surgery may become necessary when cataracts start to noticeably impair your vision, getting in the way of daily tasks such as reading or driving.
Treating glaucoma involves lowering the intraocular pressure through medications, laser therapy, or surgical procedures.
Making sure we detect and treat glaucoma as early as possible prevents optic nerve damage and preserves your vision. It’s important that we regularly monitor the disease and that you follow your treatment plan to manage this chronic condition.
Glaucoma treatment typically starts with eye drops or SLT laser, but in some cases, surgery may be necessary. As an ophthalmic surgeon near Salem, Dr. Orenberg specializes in using an SLT laser to slow down the progression of the disease.
In addition to offering routine eye care services, Marblehead Ophthalmology has introduced the innovative BTL devices Emface and Exion to our practice.
These services provide significant benefits for patients’ eye health or cosmetic concerns. Dr. Orenberg is proud to offer these treatments in addition to his work as an ophthalmic surgeon near Salem.
The Exion device uses radiofrequency energy to treat dry eyes effectively and alleviate inflammation while rejuvenating the skin around your eyes.
Emface addresses ptosis, a condition where drooping eyelids can impair vision and cause discomfort. This noninvasive device lifts and tightens loose skin around the eyes and across the face, improving both vision and appearance while reducing eye strain and headaches. Emface provides all the benefits of a facelift without the need for surgery!
Does Marblehead Ophthalmology offer financing?
Yes! We accept many major insurance carriers and we also offer third-party financing for our BTL devices Emface and Exion.
It’s important to us that you can afford the care that you need, and we will work with you to navigate financing your treatments. Whether you’re looking for an ophthalmic surgeon near Salem or simply scheduling your routine eye exams, Marblehead Ophthalmology is here for you.
